Citizens request the Regional Government to take urgent measures to alleviate the problem of the horn in the almond tree of the Altiplano (14/11/2018)

Farmers in the Altiplano region and especially in our municipality, have warned of the presence of the wasp in the almonds of the region, and ask the Regional Government to take urgent measures to prevent its spread.

Said plague is a great threat in the cultivation of the almond tree, since it attacks its fruit directly, avoiding its harvesting and the productivity of the tree.

It is an important danger for the subsistence of the almond tree in Yecla, because most of these crops in the Altiplano are of an ecological nature, which brings with it the use of traditional measures to combat this and other pests, not being able to use pesticides or products that they would be more effective for their eradication, but they would suppose for the farmers the loss of the certificate of organic farming and therefore the subsidies received for them.

Assuming the ruin of the sector.

Antonio Puche spokesman of the municipal group of citizens Yecla and Luis Francisco Fernandez Martinez regional deputy of Cs, have asked the Regional Government to be allocated to combat this problem, part of the envelope dedicated to plant health of regional budgets, which has not been spent still, since they are funds reserved for possible emergency situations, such as the one that now occurs in the almond crops of our region with the imminent threat of the plague of the wasp.

In addition, the orange formation will ask for the inclusion in the next budgets of a game to fight against this plague that affects especially the plantations of farmers and Yecla.

On the part of Citizens, and to the concern of farmers who see their crops and their economy seriously threatened.

On November 2 was presented at the regional assembly of Murcia, a full oral question, addressed to the Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries.

Where he was required the measures that were going to be adopted by the government of the Region to stop the plague of the almond wasp that suffers the Altiplano.

Citizens hope that the measures to combat this plague so aggressive for the almond tree in our municipality and the rest of the Altiplano, are taken as a matter of urgency, because not doing so would represent a significant loss for our agriculture.
