Yecla hospital starts up a new system to speed up the attention in the emergency room (28/12/2018)

To improve the quality of care, three Nursing places have been created

The Virgen del Castillo hospital in Yecla has installed a new triage system in the emergency department in order to speed up patient care and reduce waiting time.

With the aim of improving the quality of care in this area, three nursing positions have been created.

The works entailed by this new resource are part of the improvement objectives of the emergency service that began a few months ago with the recently created pediatric waiting area.

The triage consists of a system for classifying the patient's seriousness at the time of their arrival in the Emergency Department by a healthcare professional, for which different priority levels are established that allow the most serious pathologies to be attended to quickly.

Its installation has required a work of reform and the modernization of computer systems.

Through this protocol, the patient is also informed of the delay in being attended to, in a dynamic way.

This method replaces the one used until now by means of a manual and non-standardized system.

This unit, which began operating at the beginning of December, is staffed by experienced Nursing staff, who will reinforce their qualification from the hospital's training unit.

The health area of the Altiplano, whose hospital center of reference is the Virgen del Castillo, serves a population of approximately 60,000 people in the municipalities of Yecla and Jumilla.

The hospital treats more than 29,000 patients each year in the emergency department.

Constant training

The health professionals of the Altiplano Health Area participate throughout the year in courses to improve the care offered by patients.

During 2017, 17 talks were held in all the centers in the area, so that 467 professionals out of a total of 665 attended these sessions, representing 70 percent of the staff.

The objective of the courses is to sensitize health and non-health workers in the treatment between the professional and the patient and interprofessional relations in order to obtain greater satisfaction and quality in care, both by the user and the worker. .

These guidelines are also taught in the reception of new summer hired personnel and for new residents.

These courses are intended to encourage and sensitize health professionals in the care of emotions, taking into account that every patient experiences situations that health personnel should consider and take care of.
