IU-Greens: Unconditional support for the March 8 feminist strike (05/03/2019)

On March 8, International Women's Day, the feminist movement with the support of organizations and political, social and trade union groups, calls for a general feminist strike that, after the success of last year, this 2019 reaches an international dimension.

24 hours of complaint against the inequalities, discriminations and structural violence suffered by women around the world, but also to demand a new social model, fair, democratic and egalitarian.

The invisibilization of care work, the feminization of poverty, sexist violence or the lack of freedom in sexual identities and / or expressions of gender are some of the symptoms of social subordination to which women are subjected to. all spheres of life.

Therefore, it is inevitable to take all the spaces that also belong to them: the streets, the institutions, the work or study centers, the markets, etc.

To show that if they stop, the world collapses.

There are many reasons that encourage us to support this strike.

But we want to highlight ten of them:

Because throughout the world, women earn less (between 60-75% of men's wages in jobs of equal value).

Because in Yecla, 60.68% of people in unemployment are women, which is equivalent to the highest rate in the entire Region of Murcia.

Because in the Spanish State, the work devoted by women to households, care and social reproduction reaches 53% of GDP, which means that the State places in women a large part of what should be served through of public services and the co-responsibility of men.

Because, beyond the anti-abortion debate that regains its presence in some political formations and media, the practice of voluntary interruption of pregnancy is not guaranteed for all women (migrants, women between 16-18 years of age or pregnant persons) .

Because misogyny goes through culture and science in all its areas.

This invisibility removes them from History and makes all their contributions have and remain totally ignored.

Because women are unprotected from sexual aggression and rape.

And because since 2016 there have been 89 multiple sexual assaults in the Spanish State.

Because the State Pact against sexist violence, which is otherwise insufficient, must be provided with immediate resources and sufficient means for the development of global, real and effective policies that help to achieve a society free of violence against women and girls.

Because we must stop the debate about the wombs / wombs for rent because, let's not forget, it is practiced by poor women who are forced into this form of capitalist and patriarchal exploitation.

Because we have to implement public policies and global protocols against trafficking to stop the thousands and thousands of women and girls trafficked for sexual consumption of men and their irrefutable connection with the "sex industry" and prostitution.

Because migrant women suffer greater violence in the migratory process and xenophobic and racist discriminations when they reach the Spanish State.

For that reason, and many more reasons, from the Municipal Group of IU-Greens we support the feminist strike of March 8 and we encourage all women to join it.
