IU-Greens calls for measures to end attacks on cat colonies (26/07/2019)

The leftist party requests that the attacks on cats be investigated and that the City Council denounces the crimes of animal abuse before the prosecution or the courts.

IU-Verdes denounces that in recent months attacks continue to occur repeatedly to colonies of cats subject to the CES project (Capture-sterilization-release).

In this sense, this week SPANDY has publicly announced that the colony located in the area of La Pedrera has once again suffered an attack in which several puppies have died.

Attacks on cat colonies are prohibited and sanctioned by law.

In this sense, these actions are classified in the Criminal Code as crimes of animal abuse.

Thus, article 337.3 of the same establishes penalties that can reach up to 18 months in prison in cases where the result is the death of the animal.

Also, the "Ordinance on animal possession" of Yecla establishes as a very serious administrative infraction in its article 16.3.c) the "infringing ill-treatment or physical aggression on animals".

Finally, Law 6/2017, of November 8, on the protection and defense of companion animals in the Region of Murcia prohibits in Article 5.a) and b) both slaughter and animal abuse.

For all this, the formation of lefts believes that due to the repetition of these facts it is necessary that the City Council take measures.

On the one hand, they ask for actions to sanction and reproach this type of behavior.

And on the other hand, they request that citizens be given more information about the benefits of CES and the legal protection of animals.

The requests that Izquierda Unida makes to the Mayor are the following:

1- To order the Local Police to investigate and try to find out who are the perpetrators of repeated crimes of animal abuse.

2- That the relevant disciplinary administrative files that may arise from the investigations be instructed.

3- That the City Council inform the prosecutor, or the court, of the criminal acts.

4 - That from the Department of Communication, or from which it is considered most appropriate, a campaign is launched to raise awareness of the benefits of CES and to inform of the economic and criminal responsibilities that may result in the realization of these crimes.

5- That a Mayor's Office be issued with the same objective and content detailed in the previous point.
