On Wednesday, February 1, about 16 hours and after a long journey, the arrival in Yecla of the 26 French students, accompanied by three professors, came from LYCÉE SAINTE-MARIE, from the French city of CHOLET, That carry out these days an exchange with students of 3rd degree of E.SO.

Of the IES José Luis Castillo Puche.

Shortly after they were officially received by the Councilor for Education, Remedios Lajára and members of the Municipal Corporation in the Plenary Hall of the City Council

They have been hosted by the families and students of 3 ° of the Mixed Bilingual Section of our Center.

The stay in Yecla will be from the 1st to the 9th of February.

Subsequently, in approximately two months, the French students will be hosting the students and homes in their homes.

From March 30 to April 7, Spanish students who have made hosts will travel to the city of CHOLET to return the visit to the French correspondents

The Secondary Education Institute José Luis Castillo Puche has the Spanish-French Bilingual Section for 17 school years, 2000/2001 course, and for seven courses it has become Bilingual Mixed French-English-Spanish.

Since then, 16 exchanges have taken place with a French center.

It is the second year that we exchange with this CHOLET center.

The theme is to know the customs of each country, region and city;

Schedules, gastronomy, ways of life ... besides knowing the respective cities and their surroundings, and improving cultural and linguistic aspects.

Of course, what gives an added value to this type of activities are the human relationships that are established between the students and the participating families, which in many cases end up in a long friendship.

The students will be distributed in French and Spanish families, respectively, will attend class with their correspondents and will carry out a wide program of cultural activities, related to the gastronomy of both regions with recipes, videos, tastings, etc, as well as with customs and traditions .

For example, you can prepare typical dishes through a kitchen workshop, you can see the olive oil production by visiting an oil mill, the artisanal manufacture of the horchata or taste the typical toas with chocolate.

Likewise, you can visit emblematic places of the region like the Roman museum and theater of Cartagena or the refuges of the Civil War, or visit important places and monuments of the city of Valencia and know the traditions of the faults, visiting the museum fallero .

The program of activities during your stay here, you will visit the cities of Yecla, Valencia, Jumilla and Murcia, offering visits related to cultural and traditional aspects such as the visit to the Huerta Museum in Alcantarilla, visit to the Real Casino of Murcia, The Horchata Museum and the Fallero Museum in Valencia, a cooking workshop and a visit to an oil mill in Jumilla, among many other activities.

In Yecla, they will also carry out a series of activities including a gymkana around the city visiting places and shops and towns, as well as attending classes with their correspondents.

The students have done preparatory work of French language, culture and civilization before the trip and also have to make a "voyage card" during the trip.

For this, the Department has developed a series of indications, examples, etc.

To make them, sometimes, they have to ask for help to the family, which favors their integration.

In other cases our goal is to fix vocabulary or new structures.

The benefits that the students acquire are diverse

.

Linguistic.

They assimilate the linguistic competences, fundamentally the oral ones and put into practice what they learned.

.

The students become very motivated, not only to continue studying French but other languages.

Students see the practical aspect of studying a language.

It is a rewarding experience.

.

Cultural.

Have a direct contact with the country.

And being housed as a family, they have access to many aspects of French culture and civilization, which otherwise we could not address in our classes.

.

They develop and enrich their personality, making them more tolerant and learn to value difference.

Likewise, they acquire security.

On the other hand, the exchange gives the teachers the possibility of working with an authentic material that can be exploited in their classes.

On the other hand it opens channels of communication with other colleagues for the exchange of experiences and common projects.

Benoit Chaigneau and Paula Piqueras have been in charge of coordinating this activity always counting on the collaboration of the Department of French who will participate actively in the proposed activities.

To comment that being Multilingual Center we must promote this type of activities, in English as well as French.

Thus, other groups in our ESO center will hold a camp in English and a third group of ESO students will camp in French.
