The Municipal Socialist Group asks the local government to face with determination the abuse of our aquifers (15/11/2017)

The Municipal Socialist Group has made a requirement to the local government team to demand a change of regulations and concession criteria to the Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura so that the crops in our term are not changed to irrigated, lasting over time and not only while we wait for connection of other basins, taking into account not only the shortage of water, but also the contaminant of these exploitations for our subsoil.

The socialist spokesman, Asun Molina, asks the municipal government to "take into account sensitivity and concern that these issues produce to farmers and citizens, as it is the water of Yecla and the irrigation water of our traditional agriculture than the abusive and unsustainable The use that is currently being given to them by agricultural companies with intensive exploitation can mortgage the future of our resources ".

Molina does not understand the low intensity of municipal actions months after relevant social agents of our city brought to the attention of the municipal authority the existing problems with foreign horticultural companies regarding the abuse of water to irrigate their crops denouncing "absolutely intolerable behaviors such as opening steps of water, put padlocks in irrigation keys, in order to avoid taking watering reading, jumping fences, and demonstrating a voracity in the consumption of huge water ".

The Socialist spokeswoman recalled that on July 19 the Regulatory Council of the Denomination of Origin of Yecla, also addressed the Lord Mayor to convey his concern and concern about the proliferation of these large companies and the abusive consumption of water, also remembering that the traditional agriculture of Yecla is substantially more scarce and demanding that the necessary mechanisms be established to avoid this over-exploitation.

"It is not understandable how, faced with a demand as important as that made on July 3, the Well of San Jose, the Government Team has taken 4 months to answer the request and move it to the CHS. We are aware that they have been requested CHS the piezometric levels of our aquifers, but we are convinced that we must carry out other measures, as we stated, in the plenary session of May and as City Council, we must demand effective measures to the CHS as to penalize the unfair, unsupportive and almost vandalic acts that are being given.
