Organic agriculture restores soil fertility while generating a higher quality product.
To take advantage of Yecla the City works with the Spanish Society of Organic Agriculture (EEAS) in the course of 8 to 10 July, will teach on this subject in the old school of San José de Calasanz, next to the House Culture.
The initiative, now in its various editions, is aimed at farmers, technicians and active workers who do not develop their work in public administration, and build on local experiences that are already underway.
During the three-day course will be displayed from the basics for organic olive groves and vineyards, to how to market these products in the markets.
Students also receive practical lessons in an organic farm in the area.
Councilman Agriculture, Jesús Verdú, pointed out in presenting this workshop that "organic farming can be a boost for the agricultural sector, as it still is a completely untapped market and poorly stocked."
Recently, he recalled, Yecla has become an organic consumer association, AYCE, "precisely because of the difficulties that are still to purchase these products."
Verdú stressed that organic production can be "particularly attractive to farmers in the SPA [Special Protection Area for Birds], allowing them to save with a new business opportunity some of the restrictions that they might do in this protected area. "
Those interested in attending this 'course of diversification and cultivation techniques in organic farming', as it has been officially named, have until Monday July 4 to register by completing a form available on the website of SEAE www.agroecologia.net or the Department of Agriculture Hall, located on the first floor of city hall.
