Agriculture informs growers of Yecla in the field of sustainable use of plant protection products (11/04/2014)

Technical Plant Protection Service of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water reported this week to the winegrowers of the Denomination of Origin of Yecla on new obligations arising from the implementation of Community legislation on sustainable use of pesticides.

The meeting was attended by about 200 growers belonging to that OJ demanding information about this subject that aims, among other things, minimize the risks of using these products to farmers, the environment and the consumer.

The obligations that collects the rules out the need for scientific training from farmers and sellers of plant protection products and the implementation of strategies for integrated pest management by farmers, giving priority to non-chemical methods.

The Director General of Agro Industry and Agricultural Training, Lidón Angel Garcia, said that "many of the obligations required by European legislation have been applied in the region of Murcia for more than a decade ago," adding that "the cultivation of grape is a pioneer in Spain in the implementation of non-chemical control techniques and an example to follow. "

The technicians of the Ministry stressed the importance of implementing machinery in proper state of maintenance and calibrated to minimize the risks of plant protection products, as well as the requirement that this be tested prior to the November 26, 2016.

In a subsequent round table presentations farmers highlighted the shortage of tools, both chemical and biological control of certain diseases, such as wood mushrooms.
