The Tecnológioco Center Furniture and Wood Yecla receives EU funding for ecosostenibles doors and soundproof (29/01/2015)

The Technology Center Furniture and Wood located in Yecla (Cetem), which has the support of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Enterprise and Innovation, has secured funding for European H2020 program to produce and commercialize doors whose design is based on the sustainability, and provide great sound insulation.

This is the Ecosilentwood project submitted to the call 'SME instrument' of that H2020 program of the European Commission, with the participation of companies from Germany, Italy and Slovenia, in addition to Spanish research centers which include the Cetem.

The project has a budget of 1,900,000 euros, of which 1,300,000 euros will be financed by the European Commission, while the rest will come from own funds of six companies and agencies involved in it.

The main objective of this project, which will last for three years, is to develop doors and windows wood inside buildings, as well as their production and marketing strategy.

The doors must provide a level of sound insulation above the 37 decibeliosA (dBA), with a maximum thickness of 45 mm and a maximum weight of 70 kg for the larger sizes.

Furthermore, the product must be environmentally sustainable, which will be achieved by replacing current materials with more environmentally friendly, thus accessing ecolabels (ecolabels) accrediting at European level product sustainability.

At present, the values of defendants isolation for medical, hotel and residential buildings sectors are between 34 and 36 dBA, which amply fulfill this product with the required parameters.

Moreover, it is intended that companies can manufacture the doors at costs that allow them to be sold at a maximum price of 650 euros per unit (when normal prices of similar gates are around 800 and 900 euros), thanks to the adoption techniques 'Lean Manufacturing'.

The main functions that Cetem plans to develop the project are functional validation ecosostenibles used in manufacturing materials, training methodology LEAN manufacturing, validation and certification of mechanical prototypes doors and chain consolidation supply and product delivery.

The development of this initiative is based on data already obtained by another European project implemented during the years 2010-2012 called 'Silentwood'.

This secured funding through the 'Benefit of SMEs' program and was exposed by the European Commission in numerous forums as an example of successful project.

In developing 'Silentwood', whose results are now going to be improved and put on the market, also attended the Cetem as a research organization.
