World Environment Day was celebrated on Tuesday, June 5.
Once again, the Department of the Environment has not programmed anything, nor the commitment of specific actions for the care and respect of our natural surroundings, nor a related conference, not even the reading of a manifesto.
However, other locations in the Region have done a special program to commemorate this day.
Cities such as Jumilla, Calasparra or Caravaca celebrate this day with talks in educational centers to try to raise awareness about the care of the planet, didactic exhibitions or workshops.
From the Municipal Group of United Left-Greens we believe that this council can not be treated with the neglect that characterizes it.
There are hardly any environmental issues addressed in the informative commissions that, in fact, so far this year has been met only once and by a motion presented by opposition parties. Are there not important issues related to the environment? that concern our locality?
There is no proposal or analysis of the environmental situation of Yecla, how to take actions from our municipal powers or, without going any further, how you are trying to meet the famous Covenant of Mayors for Climate Change.
In addition they are not carrying out campaigns of protection and environmental education, as publicly committed this Council.
Moreover, among its objectives is the celebration of World Environment Day, drawing contest related to this theme, among other measures.
At the same time, a detailed plan of the actions of the Local Agenda 21 is not being carried out, which tries to promote sustainable development measures for cities and towns from the local level.

More participatory and democratic forms of government.
We must remember that the Sectorial Councils are not being held in time and form.
Municipal management towards sustainability with the development of effective management programs.
The commitment to protect our natural assets.
For all this, from the GM of Izquierda Unida-Verdes we consider that these commitments can not be left on paper and not only would it have to celebrate World Environment Day, but also carry out these actions throughout the year to promote awareness of the population in our municipality.
