The Association of Friends of Music of Yecla informs that last Sunday, December 2, during the Extraordinary Concert of Santa Cecilia, the Santa Cecilia 2018 Prize was awarded, this year being awarded, as mentioned in the jury minutes:
"The prestigious Dutch musician Alexander Comitas (pseudonym of Eduard de Boer) His relationship with the Association of Friends of Music began in 2014, when at the initiative of the Association and the Department of Culture of the City Council of Yecla , through its Museum of Replicas of El Greco and to commemorate the IV Centenary of the death of El Greco, he is commissioned a work for a symphonic orchestra of wind, based on the painting of the Cretan painter "The Burial of the Count Orgaz". The work was premiered by the Band of the Association of Friends of Music in a memorable concert offered in the courtyard of the Alcázar de Toledo, on October 18, 2014. The piece written and dedicated to our director, the teacher Ángel Hernández Azorín, was the beginning of a close and fruitful relationship with our honoree, which has undoubtedly contributed to give international prestige to our Music Band, a prestige that was seen in our
evo reaffirmed on April 8 when the musicians of our band premiere at the world level in the Auditorium "Víctor Villegas" of Murcia one of his creations, entitled "March of Iskandar-Khan Op. 81b".
He read the Minutes of the Jury, the Secretary of the Association of Friends of Music, Mr. Liborio Ruiz, and then the award ceremony took place with the presence on stage of the award-winner, the President of the same, D. Francisco Muñoz Castaño and the Ilmo.

This award is given since 2005 by the Association of Friends of Music of Yecla and recognizes the work of any person, group or entity, public or private, working to achieve the aims of promoting knowledge and enjoyment of Music.
ALEXANDER COMITAS (EDUARD DE BOER):
Alexander Comitas is the pseudonym of the Dutch composer Ed de Boer.
He studied piano with Thom Bollen, composition under the tutelage of Hans Kox at the Utrecht Conservatory, and orchestra with Anton Kersjes, at the Maastricht Conservatory.
During the years 1981 and 1990 he works as an independent pianist for the orchestras and choirs of the Dutch radio.
Later, he decides to dedicate himself fully to composition.
Since 1981, Comitas has composed almost exclusively on request.
Among his works are an orchestra overture for the inauguration of the Enschede Music Center, the cantata "The Wedding of the Moon and the Sun" for the Eindhoven Frits Philips Music Center, and also, his first "Violin Concerto" for the opening of the Tilburg concert hall.
So far his repertoire is composed of three operas, three symphonies, two ballets, two string quartets, and many other works, among which are diverse compositions for choir, symphony orchestra and wind orchestras.
Many of his compositions for bands and wind orchestras have served as a must in many competitions, such as his work "Vita Aeterna Variations" for section A of the European Brass Band Competition EBBC 2012 at the De Doelen Auditorium in Rotterdam , also at the French National Championnat held in 2014 at Yvetot, and at the British Open for bands in 2014 at the Birmingham Symphony Auditorium.
In addition to his work as a composer, Comitas carries out a great activity as a pianist and composer of his own works.
