The irruption of electric scooters in Spanish cities is a reality.
Yecla is not an exception and, in fact, during these Christmas holidays there will be many Yecla and Yecla people who receive one of these vehicles as a gift.
This leaves us with a new reality of circulation that must be regulated.
Some cities like Madrid have already begun to regulate the use of these vehicles.
The objective is none other than to achieve the integration of these scooters in the circulation as an alternative of sustainable mobility to the automobile and, at the same time, regulate the safety of pedestrians and users of this means of transport.
Because, we must remember that it is not a toy, in fact in Madrid, Sabadell or Esplugues de Llobregat there have already been tragic abuses where a vehicle of this type has been involved.
It should be remembered that there is an instruction to classify these vehicles made by the Directorate General of Traffic that has been used by several municipalities to draw up regulations in this regard.
In other localities, the areas through which these vehicles may or may not circulate have been regulated, prohibiting in all cases the circulation of sidewalks or pedestrian zones.
The maximum speed of road traffic or the mandatory use of the helmet has also been regulated.
For all this, from the Municipal Group of United Left - Greens, we believe that it is time to study a specific regulation for these electric scooters or that it adapts to the existing traffic regulations, either in the Municipal Ordinance of Circulation or in the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of Yecla.
In addition, a map should be made to indicate which areas can be used and which ones can not be used, as well as carry out campaigns to raise awareness of the good use of these transports.
