The Association of Friends of Music of Yecla reports that the new 2019/2020 school year began on September 9 with a total of 800 students enrolled, a figure that seemed impossible to achieve, no longer because of the demand for applications - which has been rising year after year - but for a logistical issue, since, after 9 years of the inauguration of the new premises of the center, we have run out of space to be able to locate them all.
At the School of Yecla, 31 people are currently hired (29 teachers, a janitor and an administrator) who are responsible for teaching the following subjects among the 800 students: music and movement for children aged 3 to 7, musical language, music theory for adults, piano, guitar, ukulele, violin, viola, cello, double bass, Suzuki method for violin, percussion, clarinet, saxophone, flute, oboe, bassoon, trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, advanced instrumentation technique, guitar electric, electric bass, auditory education, modern harmony, combo, music production (new this new course) and singing.
In addition, as a complement to them, several instrumental ensemble subjects are also taught: initiation band, youth band, choir, string orchestra and guitar orchestra.
Our School of Music is the official center of the ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) and of the Rockschool, so the exams of both British institutions are carried out every year with the assistance of students of our center as well as external students
In addition to instructing in the knowledge and learning of music, in our educational center we have always worked to strengthen other values associated with it, such as responsibility, respect, solidarity, teamwork and companionship.
For the Association of Friends of Music of Yecla, which is the entity that since 1995/1996 manages the operation of the School of Music of Yecla through an agreement signed with the Hon.
Yecla City Council, it is a great pride to have reached these figures of people who, in one way or another, have approached, involved and some professionalized in the world of music.
We have been growing year by year, step by step, increasing the specialties offered.
At the beginning we only had music theory, piano and wind and percussion instruments, to which little by little we were adding all the others: first the guitar;
shortly after the rope;
a few years later the Modern Music Classroom;
Some years ago the singing.
Therefore, currently in our School you can study virtually any musical instrument that a student wants.
Likewise, we are very proud of the support that Yeclana society has offered us, since for many families in our town it is almost a fundamental part of their children's education that they study at the School of Music.
Only a few years, others until they can, and many of them, increasingly, continue their studies in different conservatories choosing to devote themselves professionally to music.
We only have one spike stuck: even having enrolled this course more than 800 students, they have still been left out, due to lack of space, more than 40 people.
But this, in turn, encourages us to continue working even more to find resources and solutions.
Finally, we can only thank all parents, adult students, managers, musicians, partners, authorities and, finally, the whole city of Yecla, the support that we receive from them year after year, with which we try to bring the greatest number of yeclanos to this wonderful world of music.
