From IU-Verdes de Yecla, we ask that the City Council demand at higher levels the urgent measures to stop the ecological disaster in the Mar Menor caused by the disastrous environmental policies of the PP.
The Mar Menor constitutes a unique ecosystem in Europe that houses up to 11 environmental protection figures, both regional, national and international.
However, in the last 50 years it has been subjected to different polluting pressures that have led to the current crisis whose most visible manifestation has been the appearance of hundreds of thousands of animals of different species killed due to lack of oxygen.
First it was the mining operation, in addition to the almost non-existent environmental legislation of the time.
After the urban development and tourism that hurt the space death.
Finally, the implementation of an intensive agriculture without limits that has led to the drop that has filled the glass;
environmental aggression that we currently suffer in Yecla and threatens to destroy our aquifers.
However, the different regional governments of the Popular Party during the last twenty years have given priority to the support of the particular interests of some horticultural and construction companies over the general interest, thus violating article 45 of the Constitution.
In this way, the management of the right-wing party has led to the ecological collapse of the Mar Menor and threatens to damage the rest of the natural areas of the Region.
For all this, from United Left-Greens we have presented to the Plenary Session of the City Council of Yecla a motion for our municipality to request the following at the appropriate instances, among other measures, the following:
1.- That all human, economic and technical resources for the development of an urgent investigation that purge the political and judicial responsibilities for the current state of the Mar Menor be made available to the Prosecutor's Office.
2.- That the legislation already in force be applied immediately and that is being breached by the Autonomous Community: Mar Menor Integral Management Plan, Discharge Plan 0 and the Urgent Measures Plan.
3.- That the European Commission be requested to intervene in the community institutions with competence in the matter for the establishment of appropriate measures to ensure compliance with European legislation.
4.- That the illegal irrigation in the Campo de Cartagena and the environment affecting the Mar Menor be closed immediately
5.- That the City Council of Yecla request the immediate resignation of President López Miras.
He and his government have been absolutely negligent and unable to stop the "ecocide" of the Mar Menor and to conserve the natural areas of the Region of Murcia.
