"The Barcelona City Council, governed by our party, has shown that its installation could have been avoided"

From Izquierda Unida-Verdes we denounce that the City Council of Yecla has rejected one by one all the allegations against the installation of two betting houses that were lodged by a multitude of neighbors, associations and parties, among which we are.

Thus, they will be granted an activity license and therefore these establishments will be opened shortly in front of the Méndez Núñez School and the La Paz College.

It is necessary to remember that we already presented at the beginning of the year 2018 a proposal that of its approval would have prevented the installation of these two establishments.

But, the PP left it on the table to study its feasibility and is still in the drawer.

Also, in the Plenary session of September the Citizens party presented an initiative with the same purpose;

although, once again, it was left in the drawer by the PP and paradoxically by the Citizens themselves.

The Government Team of our locality excuses itself again and again that the session does not have the appropriate competencies.

However, this week the Barcelona City Council, which governs our party, has announced that it has suspended the granting of new licenses for a year.

Likewise, they will carry out a special urban plan to prevent the establishment of betting houses near educational or health centers and, in addition, they will prepare a plan of measures to combat gambling.

These initiatives of the city could perfectly have been launched in Yecla when they were proposed by our party in 2018.

All this shows that the installation of new bookmakers in Yecla, in front of two schools, could have been avoided if the initiative presented by IU-Verdes had been approved at the time.

But, the Popular Party refused, put it in a drawer and there it continues.
