IU-Greens of Yecla support the negotiations opened by the Government with the large stores and farmers' unions in search of the establishment of fair agricultural prices.
From IU-Verdes de Yecla we are optimistic by the Dialogue Table that the progressive coalition government of Spain has established around the problem of agricultural prices for the Spanish countryside.
The market of food products is increasingly monopolized by the five major distribution groups of food products (Mercadona, DIA, Alcampo, Carrefour, Corte Inglés and Lidl).
The small farmers in this country, and therefore in Yecla, are increasingly defenseless to maintain prices at the origin of the field.
The imbalance is becoming so palmar that sometimes the final price imposed by the large surfaces with respect to the price of origin is multiplied by seven.
For example, according to the IPOD (Index of Prices in Origin and Destination) of November, the price of extra virgin oil inflates 88% from the origin (when the farmers sell it) to the destination (when it is sold in a store) .
This problem in prices is widespread and is negatively affecting the farmers in Yeclan who are dedicated to the olive, but also to the farmers who are dedicated to other crops.
Hence, we have received with optimism the demonstration of the Ministry of Agriculture to open a Dialogue Table between the large food distribution areas with farmers' unions.
It is something new in the history of Spanish agriculture management that a state administration is proposing to solve the price of food at source.
This demonstrates the negotiation and dialogue nature that the progressive coalition government has initiated.
Something that has already paid off on the issue of pensions and salaries, where businessmen and unions have agreed.
Negotiate minimum prices, prohibit sales at losses in large areas, that the price at the origin of the product appears on supermarket labels, among others, are claims of consumers, who demand fair prices;
and of the agricultural producers, who do not want the speculation of the big distributors to speculate to sink the prices at origin.
Therefore, from IU-Verdes de Yecla we call on consumers and farmers to mobilize and support the Government in achieving fair agricultural prices for all of Spain.
