The Plenary Session of the City Council of Yecla has unanimously approved to request a grant of 793,802.82 euros from the Ministry of Development for the financing of the restoration works of the Chapel of Sorrows, of the Church of San Francisco de Yecla, under 1 , 5% cultural, where aid to finance conservation or enrichment of real estate of the Spanish Historical Heritage is contemplated.
The City Council undertakes to contribute 340,201.21 euros, in the budgets of the year 2021, which would cover the remaining 30% of the financing of these restoration works that have a total budget of 1,134,004.03 euros (VAT included)
Recall that the Ministry of Education and Culture, recently granted a grant of 225,000 euros for the start of restoration work with the replacement of the roofs of the main nave and aisles of said property.
The Chapel of the Virgen de las Angustias of the Church of San Francisco is considered a Cultural Interest Asset (BIC), with the status of a national historical and artistic monument.
It was built during the 18th century by the Venerable Third Order of San Francisco, being the greatest exponent of the Levantine baroque in Yecla.
A building that highlights the dressing room built to house the image of the Virgen de las Angustias by maestro Salzillo, which retains its original altarpiece along with a unique sample of Valencian tiles from the same century.
