| Today two briefs have been registered with the City Council initiating the procedures to install 8 square kilometers of solar panels | If a few days ago we denounced the possible installation of a photovoltaic park in the Sierra del Cuchillo, our surprise has been capital today when we see that Mount Arabí is also seriously threatened by the same disease, but with much greater intervention. Mount Arabí is in serious danger again.
Today, Tuesday, July 7, two briefs have been registered with the City Council requesting the urban compatibility certificate for the construction of two mega photovoltaic power plants on the slopes of this mountain.
These power plants are larger than all those installed and planned so far in our town and will involve the industrialization of 795 hectares of the entire environment of the forest.
Or what is the same, 8 square kilometers.
The plates will be installed adjacent to the forest mass of the natural monument itself and, if not avoided, will cover a large part of the land that reaches the Fuente Álamo road. The compatibility certificate is one of the first administrative procedures to be carried out for the construction of these infrastructures.
The procedure consists of a request for information on the legal viability of the buildings based on the urban planning regulations in force in our town.
Currently, said land is declared by the Plan as undeveloped, but through the declaration of public interest in the infrastructure it could be legalized, as is currently happening with all the solar fields that are intended to be installed in Yecla. However, from our training we believe that it is time to prevent our most precious spot from being lost forever, since the procedure is at a very early stage.
Although the mobilization of the Yeclaan society as a whole is again essential to avoid the disaster that its installation would suppose.Since our formation, we have been warning with ANIDA for a long time that the lack of planning on renewable energy in our municipality could lead to disasters of this type.
The photovoltaic sector is involved in unlimited speculation and hundreds of unscrupulous companies have launched to urbanize the entire natural environment by installing these power plants.
Unfortunately, time proves us right again and the urban deregulation of our municipality puts our precious Mount Arabí in danger again. For all these reasons, we demand that the Government Team of our town immediately put into operation all the legal tools available to the City Council to avoid the installation of the two mega solar power plants on Mount Arabí and that, as we have been demanding For months, promote the appropriate measures to protect our municipal area from the installation of this type of industries in places that need environmental or landscape protection. In red land affected by the 150 MW photovoltaic power plant project named WHALE and in black land affected by the RHINO FV 100 MW plant.
