The yeclana furniture industry bets on the diverse talent (17/11/2016)

The Furniture and Wood Technological Center together with six of its associated companies bet on the labor integration of a group of students with psychic disabilities through a program of work practices

A total of 10 students belonging to the Day Center of the Association of Psychic Disabled of Yecla (AMPY) and the College of Special Education Virgen de la Esperanza, have begun this week their practices in the sections and storage of six companies of our Locality that have lent themselves unselfishly to collaborate in the integration of the diverse talent: Ecus Sleep, Fama Sofas, Frajumar, Interplasp, Upholstery Accommodates and Tayber Upholstered Convertibles.

Previously, the students have received training in CETEM using a shearing machine provided by Bermar Metalúrgica.

These practices will last for two months, and students will always have tutors and support staff from both the companies participating in this initiative and the Yecla Association of Psychic Disabled (AMPY) and CETEM.

In Europe more than 50 million people have some kind of disability, which in many cases causes them problems to obtain and keep a job.

This is mainly due to the lack of knowledge on the part of employers and workers of the potential capacities, needs and abilities associated with different types of disability.

Taking into account this social context, CETEM, together with partners from other countries, has participated in the European project Working TRI21, designed to offer support to people with disabilities so that they can participate in working life with equality.

Thanks to its experience in this project, CETEM has developed a training material previously tested through a pilot course that seeks to employ the integration in the labor market of people with disabilities as a means to eliminate barriers and favor their participation in the Companies, while continuing with the great efforts that the furniture sector has been making in recent years to improve the employability of this type of collectives within their policies of corporate social responsibility.

Thanks to the enriching experience provided by these solidarity companies, people with physical or mental disabilities are one step closer to labor integration and, therefore, to social inclusion.
