The Ministry of Health allocates about 150,000 euros to the improvement of the Pharmacy Service of the Hospital Virgen del Castillo de Yecla, which serves the population of the municipalities of Jumilla and Yecla.
The works, which began this week, consist of the adaptation of a space in which the conditions of the environment are optimized, so that the manufacture of sterile formulas, mainly cytostatic medicines and preparations for parenteral nutrition, is allowed.
The new infrastructure will be dedicated to two 'clean rooms', specially designed in order to obtain low levels of contamination for the elaboration of these drugs.
These types of infrastructures, also known as 'clean rooms' or controlled environments, are built according to demanding control and safety requirements to guarantee the tightness and asepsis of the installations, the sufficient renovation and filtration of the air and the systems of secure access , in other aspects.
In these rooms the concentration of particles contained in the air is carefully controlled to avoid external contamination, in addition to other important parameters such as temperature, humidity and pressure.
In 2016, a total of 307 parenteral nutrition (to feed patients via intravenous), 3,177 eye drops, 403 cytostatics (drugs for the treatment of cancer) were prepared in the pharmacy units of Yecla hospital, in addition to 147 different preparations , And was attended to more than 4,000 patients.
The performance in the dependencies of the hospital of Yecla involves the construction of spaces specifically designed for these uses, in which laboratory production hoods will be located and will have strictly controlled conditions of pressure, temperature, humidity and air cleaning.
The works are executed on an area of ​​about 35 square meters.
White rooms
The Ministry has allocated 1.4 million euros between 2015 and 2017 to the construction and adaptation of white rooms pharmacy throughout the network of hospitals of the Health Service Murciano.
With the creation of this new space, the nine hospitals in the health areas of the Region will have white rooms adapted to European standards.
The award of the works to 'Electricity Ferysan' is 153,670 euros, and its execution period, four months.
