In addition, these companies do not contribute to the economic development of our city |
From GM de Izquierda Unida-Verdes de Yecla we want to show our absolute rejection of the statements made by Fernando López Miras, president of the Region of Murcia, during his first official visit.
The overexploitation of aquifers is not only confirmed by numerous studies carried out in recent decades, but is explicitly included in the PGMOU, which was recently approved by the City Council.
There is no doubt that their statements demonstrate a complete ignorance of the reality of our municipality.
The overexploitation is such that IU presented allegations for this purpose to the General Urban Plan, stating the need to carry out a program of action to find solutions to the serious problem of lack of water, as it affects any urban development in conditions Of sustainability.
For our training, the water contained in the aquifers of Yecla must have as a top priority the supply of the population, to the detriment, if necessary, of the proliferation of intensive plantations of horticultural products that has been undergoing for some years.
And these practices, which have nothing to do with the tradition and the agricultural past of our city and which also have a huge speculative component, generate the voracious consumption of our water resources.
In addition, they do not contribute to the economic development of our city, since these are companies that are not from Yecla and, as real predators, they slash our local resources and once exhausted, they migrate to other areas where they repeat this abusive and unsustainable model.
