Deputy Yolanda Fernández, who last year complained that said Plan was more than a year behind, considers this protection as a "legal firewall" very important so that this Natural Monument can not suffer external attacks or threats to its environment as happened this summer with an intensive swine exploitation project
Next Wednesday, September 20, will be discussed in the Regional Assembly the motion presented by the PSOE last March that proposes the preparation and urgent approval of the Management Plan for the protection of Mount Arabí, the first natural monument recognized in the Region and one of the most emblematic areas of our area which, however, this summer has suffered a major aggression fortunately slowed by the mobilization of Yecla citizenship led by the outstanding work of the Platform 'Save the Arabí and his Shire'.
The deputy for the Altiplano, Yolanda Fernández, recalled that at the beginning of 2016, the Council of Government recognized Monte Arabí Natural Monument through Act 4/2007 on Cultural Heritage of the Region of Murcia, but "as is often the case with this Regional Government, that was only in a photograph and a headline because almost 2 years later it has not been endowed with the content at the level of protection that is due, something that has been emphatically evidenced before the conflict arisen with the intensive swine exploitation that they tried to install 300 meters from Monte and that social pressure has managed to paralyze legal abandonment. "
The Socialist deputy denounces that "the Regional Government has not moved a finger in almost 2 years, or even before the emergence of the conflict of the aforementioned pig farm and has not yet been elaborated or approved the aforementioned Management Plan for its protection with the proper action between the Community of Murcia and Manchega, since part of the environment is in the neighboring community and can not happen again a chain failure of the institutions as happened in the term of allegations to the intensive farm project where neither the Municipality of Yecla and the Regional Government presented these allegations within the time limit that would have been effective. "
Finally, Yolanda Fernández recalled the importance of this emblematic natural space of Mount Arabí located in a large stone structure rounded, with an altitude of 1,065 meters and an area of approximately 600 hectares and has a high concentration of rock art, one of the reasons why it has great cultural, social and historical relevance, recognized by UNESCO.
