The Hospital Virgen del Castillo de Yecla has received for the third consecutive year the accreditation as 'Hospital friend of the children' of the Initiative for the Humanization of Assistance to Birth and Breastfeeding, promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Unicef.
For this reason, the center has organized a meeting under the theme 'Friend of Mother and Baby Community', whose objective is to highlight the importance of the 'Hasta Qué Tu Quieras' project to promote breastfeeding.
It will be on Saturday, November 18 (10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the Yecla Bioclimatic Building) with the participation of experts in breastfeeding and the awarding of the Initiative for the Humanization of Assistance to Birth and Breastfeeding, by the national coordinator of this initiative, Teresa Hernández, and the professor emeritus and patron of Unicef, Manuel Moro.
The project 'Until you want', which the Ministry of Health is extending throughout the region, has been promoted from the health area of the Altiplano, which covers the municipalities of Yecla and Jumilla and has the Virgen del Castillo hospital as a center reference.
'Until you want', was distinguished in the 2014 call by the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality as an example of Best Practices with the highest score within the Strategy of Attention to Childbirth and Reproductive Health.
This work has raised breastfeeding rates up to 95 percent after hospital discharge and 50 percent at seven months.
In Yecla hospital, exclusive breastfeeding (babies only take breast milk) until discharge from maternity is 94.7 percent, which exceeds the required 75 percent standard for the Initiative for the Humanization of Attention to Birth (IHAN) of the World Health Organization and Unicef.
Last July, the IHAN issued a report congratulating this hospital for the excellent work done, as well as for its desire to improve and continuous improvement, considering that the hospital has successfully passed the evaluation, so that the Virgen del Castillo de Yecla hospital has been accredited for the third time in the BFHI for a period of 5 years.
