The Municipal Group of IU-Greens qualifies Regional budgets in Social Policy as continuous and insufficient (19/12/2017)

"The regional budgets of 2018 in terms of social policy are not in line with the situation of growing poverty in the Region of Murcia."

This is what we stated from the Municipal Group of the United Left - Greens, since the current budgets, both of the Family and Equal Opportunities Council and of the IMAS, in their different groups and sections, are continuists with respect to previous years despite the fact that the slight generalized increase that they present and show that for the regional government the social policy continues being an expense and not an investment.

The growing increase in the situation of poverty and exclusion of the population, as well as the social and economic worsening of the living conditions of Murcia and therefore of the population of Yecla, placing us in poverty rates above the national average that They touch 40%, they are more than enough reason for this counseling to have experienced a much greater increase, both because of the long years of brutal cuts that it has suffered during the crisis, and because of the lack of social investments of recent times.

In this way, the transfers for basic benefits to municipal social services of the city councils remain at the lowest level in recent years, after the largest cuts suffered.

Among the aid aimed at disadvantaged groups are those aimed at local corporations for the fight against energy poverty, an amount that amounts to one million euros for the whole region, which is ridiculous considering the social landscape described above and so many times denounced by NGOs, S and political formations like ours.

Regarding the elderly and people with disabilities, the municipal group of IU-Verdes de Yecla states that the largest investments are in subsidizing third sector entities through agreements and / or concerts, obtaining in some cases greater funding that the social service centers themselves, opting again for outsourcing services as basic and necessary as residential centers, day centers, daytime stays, telecare, home help, etc.

Regarding dependency, the tendency of the government of Murcia to make rule of the exception is evident, betting on economic aid for the care of dependent family members over investment in services, contrary to what the law itself contemplates, allocating 59 million euros to this concept, while no budget is foreseen for the creation of new social resources linked to dependents, neither public nor private.

With regard to aid, another aspect that can be criticized is the amounts contemplated in particularly important aid such as insertion programs that barely reach 400,000 euros in a context of worrying growth of social exclusion and poverty;

individualized assistance to elderly people, which are around half a million euros (despite the aging of the population, the feminization of poverty, having the lowest pensions in the country and therefore, the impoverishment of the elderly) or the basic insertion income itself, which, despite the increase it has experienced, continues to be insufficient to cover the basic needs of a large sector of the population that can not live in decent conditions.

Finally, regarding the policies of equality of the government of Lopez Miras, from our Municipal Group we emphasize that they are clearly insufficient, in fact, not only do they have no planned increase, but that even the budget for 2018 is somewhat lower with respect to the previous exercise and in any case, well below the almost five and a half million of 2010 and without contemplating the recovery of the missing Institute of Women of the Region of Murcia.

Neither the prevention of gender violence seems to be a priority for the regional government, since the increase of 246,000 euros compared to 2017, standing at a total of 2,444,433 in 2018 is far from the 10,733,195 in 2009 or of the 7,818,981 of 2012, showing once again where the biggest cuts have occurred.
