The Minister of Agriculture Antonio Cerda has introduced the V Contest Yecla Wine Selection 2012, to be held on Friday 25 May.
In the event, held at the Ministry of Agriculture, was present Councillor of Agriculture, Jesus Verdu and President of the DO Yecla Pascual Molina
The Conejero of Agriculture has highlighted the efforts made since the PDO and the city to give continuity to this event.
He indicated that the Murcia region of Spain is the only one that has three regulatory boards and three wine routes and congratulated Yecla Denomination of Origin for the great effort made in recent years to bring the wine sector
Jesús Verdú, Council of Agriculture pointed out that the event serves to raise awareness of the high level they reach our wines and encourage wine in the same direction.
He also stressed the cultural, social and ecological treasures wine production
This time will be assessed the 67 wines entered in the competition, from the cellars of the Denomination of Origin Yecla.
The wines are divided into six categories: white, rosé, red harvest 2011 and 2010 without barrel aging, the same crops reds aged in oak, red from harvests prior to 2009, and sweet wines.
Evaluation sessions of the wines will be developed from 10.00 am in the tasting room of the Regulatory Council of the DO Yecla, under the direction of VadeVino Editorial team, editor of the Guide Planetavino and Proensa, and technical supervision of the Regulatory Board.
Will continue the highest standards of tasting contest, with the bottles prepared to ensure the blind tasting, that is ignorance on the part of assessors of the identity of the wines involved.
The assessment used the profile sheet official of the Office of Vine and Wine to international competitions with a score of 0 to 100 points.
San Isidro Awards Gold, Silver and Bronze are awarded to wines rated in each category, but with the proviso that the first awards are to exceed 90 points, the minimum is 81 points silver and bronze awards wines with more than 70 points.
The jury may declare void any category if there are no wines that meet these minimum qualifications.
You can also declare exaequo awards for qualifications that are substantially equal, a difference of 0.3 points maximum in the average rating given by the tasters.
The awards ceremony will be held Friday evening May 25, during a farewell dinner to be held at a restaurant in Yecla
The winning wines will be tasted at a low price in the Shed Wine, located in the Plaza Mayor, on Saturday May 26, 12 to 13 hours and 20-21 hours, on the occasion of the 1st Cultural Week organized by the Route Yecla Wine
In the four previous editions have been awarded about 68 prizes for the best wines of the Appellation of Origin Yecla selected from the 200 samples submitted.
Yecla Denomination of Origin has 7,600 hectares of vineyards spread over 800 farms.
The most important grape variety in them is the Monastrell, but also grow Syrah, Tempranillo, Airen, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Blanc, Macabeo, Garnacha, Merlot, Chardonnay, Petit Verdot and Totorera.
