Mark Ortuño presents the official program of the opening of the Museum of Archaeology Yecla (30/05/2012)

On Friday June 1, 2012 will be a very special day for all Yeclanos, for Her Majesty Queen Sofia will visit the town to preside over the inauguration of the Municipal Archaeological Museum "Cayetano Mergelina."

This museum, which has lots of archaeological resources of the town of Yecla, with a total investment of 406,000 euros, of which 325,000 have been borne by the Autonomous Community of Murcia and 81,000 euros by the City of Yecla.

The visit of HM the Queen is a historic event for the town of Yecla, and as stated by the Mayor, Mark Ortuño, inviting all citizens to attend the vicinity of the Placeta Ortega to receive and tuck Queen Sofia .

It is intended that His Majesty reached Yecla about 11.30 am, namely the Placeta Ortega, from where it will move to walk to the doors of the Museum, located in the Municipal House of Culture.

Will be received by the authorities to accompany him on a tour of the facilities of Maye, a museum that has five hundred square meters of permanent exhibition divided into four cultural spheres: Monte Arabi (prehistory), Cerro de los Santos (protohistoric or pre-Roman) Torrejones (Romanization) and Castle Hill (Middle Ages: Islamic and Christian period period).

After visiting with twelve rooms available to the Municipal Archaeological Museum members of the delegation will travel to the hall of the museum at the location of the discovery of plate by His Majesty and welcome to the representatives of the associations of the town of Yecla.

The Museum was established in 1983 to be heir of the former Municipal Archaeological Collection organized and displayed on permanent display since 1958, according the Hon.

City of Yecla in 1987 nominate "Cayetano Mergelina."

In 1990 the Museum is part of the Regional Network of Museums.

The Museum is designed as a space outreach and education, while a specialized documentation center, an exhibition designed in an interesting and educational at the same time.

A fascinating tour that starts at around 150,000 BCE (Middle Palaeolithic) and ends in the late Middle Ages to the late fifteenth century and which offers an excellent view of how it was managed the same space or territory at different times.
