The spokesman Juan Miguel Zornoza has submitted a proposal requesting the plenary of the Municipal Corporation to support the amendment of the Electoral Act and thus promote the direct election of the mayor.
The agreement proposed by the Municipal People collect an approach that has been addressed at different times of the current democratic period in Spain and by different political formations.
The proposal focuses on respect for the majority will of the neighbors through "reform of the electoral system that recognizes citizens the right to directly elect the mayor, allowing the maximum municipal responsibility rests with the head of the list of the most voted candidate, "said Juan Miguel Zornoza.
The spokesman believes that "this electoral reform is needed to not break the will of the majority of citizens concerned by agreements to which only those who take advantage and never benefiting neither the institutions nor the citizens."
This proposal adds to the nationwide initiative that is raising the Popular Party "to ensure stability and governance councils during the electoral mandate."
