The Plenum of the Regional Assembly today unanimously approved a motion to agree to support the city of Yecla and the Federation of Peñas de San Isidro for the Fiestas de San Isidro are declared of National Tourist Interest.
The deputy parliamentary group, Vicente Maeso, and former mayor of Yecla, has been in charge of defending this motion from the speaker's stand.
Maeso has recollected the origin of the devotion to San Isidro yeclanos, and remembered that today these festivals are thousands of different peoples of our region of Castilla La Mancha and Valencia, who come to witness the unique parade of floats covered with tissue paper in multiple colors, and the procession of the Rocks with costumes.
Francisco Abellán, deputy of the Socialist Group and former mayor of Jumilla, defended his group's position of support for the initiative, which has also been supported by Deputy United Left-Green Region of Murcia, José Antonio Pujante.
The discussion of this parliamentary initiative has been followed from the Court of the Counties, by the Mayor of Yecla, Marcos Ortuño, and a representation of the Federation of Peñas de San Isidro.
