The Directorate General for Environment, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Water, intends to declare the Monte Arabi as Natural Monument, at the request of the City of Yecla, which will become the first natural area in the region with this protection which takes into account the economic, social and cultural requirements as well as the particularities of the protected area.
Law 42/2007 of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity provides that "natural monuments are spaces or elements of nature basically consist notorious formations uniqueness, rarity or beauty, that deserve special protection."
The Monte Arabi is a round shaped stone structure, which rises over the vast plains yeclana at an altitude of 1,068 meters above sea level, on the border with the province of Albacete.
This area has significant natural and cultural values, as the Cave Horadada, singular geological formation modeling results limestone and rock paintings on the walls of Cantos Visor, which, next to the Cave of the South and the rest cave art of the Mediterranean Basin on the Iberian Peninsula, were declared in 1988 by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, and enjoy the recognition of cultural interest.
The public nature of all the territory that will be included in the figure of Natural Monument, and interest from the point of forestry seen also justify that the Directorate General Environment also start their inclusion in the Catalogue of Public Utility Woodland .
The Director General of Environment, embodies Molina, accompanied by Councilman Environment of the City of Yecla, Jesús Verdú, and technicians of the regional and municipal administrations, recently visited the Monte Arabi, which could verify the conditions of this place and the interest in promoting this statement.
In addition, improvements in public facilities by the Consistory, who owns it is checked.
