Youth in Europe and Asia participate in archaeological fieldwork in Yecla (08/07/2009)

The director of the Institute for Youth, Veronica Lopez, accompanied by the Councillor for Youth of the City of Yecla, Monica Azorín, today visited the young people involved in international work camp Yecla Archaeology, held at the site of The Torrejones.

The field work of Yecla, which will run from 5 to 19 July, has this year for the first time, international.

A total of 21 youths, aged between 18 and 26 years, from several European and Asian countries such as Spain, France, Denmark, Ukraine, Russia and South Korea will carry out archaeological work.

Veronica Lopez noted that participants in the field "will have the opportunity to interact with youth from other social realities, which promotes cultural exchange and coexistence through the activities of the archaeological site and others related to culture Murcia Region. "

The actions carried out volunteer work will include field and laboratory.

At the site of The Torrejones be carried out reconnaissance prospecting and excavation, analysis and stratigraphic record of architectural structures, materials and photographic documentation as well as the daily excavation.

In the laboratory work will be carried out cleaning, sorting, and inventory century and material selection.

The archaeological work will be led by the archaeologist and director of the Municipal House of Culture of Yecla, Liborio Ruiz Molina.

The planned activities are intended to show the volunteers that archeology is a scientific method for determining the historical interpretation of cultural periods, where the written memory is scarce, and its proper use will depend on the greater or lesser amount of data obtained from the place where we work, which will interpret aspects of economic activity, cultural and social.

In parallel with the archaeological works have been organized and ethnographic cultural activities and workshops on technical disciplines applied to archeology, such as photography, surveying, mapping and restoration of ceramics and metals, in addition to planned activities.
