The regional deputy, Domingo Carpena, has filed a motion in the Regional Assembly which calls for the development of a Furniture Renewal Plan in collaboration with industry and wood furniture.
Carpenter noted that this group in the region includes more than 850 companies, with nearly 8,400 workers, of whom some 1,660 are independent.
These figures represent regional level, 2.5% of Gross Value Added (GVA), workers represent 19.6% of the whole region and 13.5% of the companies regional number of them.
Most of these companies are based in the town of Yecla, where 6.500-7000 generate direct jobs and hundreds of indirect.
However, the economic crisis has had a particularly negative effect on the sector hard, with a significant drop in domestic demand and many difficulties in accessing foreign markets, which has led to the closure of companies, the emergence of EREs and considerable loss of jobs affecting hundreds of workers and their families.
"We must not forget that in Yecla, furniture and tapestries represent virtually the entire industrial population," said the deputy.
Employment
Carpenter said the employment situation in the town of Yecla is very worrying.
Yes, in June 2007, at the beginning of the legislature, had 1003 unemployed in December 2009, there were 2569, ie an increase of 256%, which contrasts with the increase in unemployment over the same period nationwide was 93% and increased the regional average of 181%.
In December 2007 there were 492 unemployed Yecla and Industry sector in December 2009: 1658, ie over 300%.
Data such as these "are more than reason enough to demonstrate the need to implement measures to support the sector as the Renewal Plan," he said.
Socialist MP said that this experience has been very successful in other regions such as the Basque Country.
Furniture Renewal Plan in that range started with an investment of 2.5 billion euros, later expanding to 19.8 million euros.
"The results have been very encouraging, as it finished the campaign has generated more than 160 million euros in sales."
Said the Minister of Industry, Barnabas Unda "for every dollar spent has been generated about eight euros."
Other regions such as Valencia are also considering carrying it out.
